Severe Weather Outbreak

I write this just before the 10pm show. The Thunderstorm Watch is still in effect until 11pm but no longer includes the DFW area.

A very power storm cell moved over Eagle Mt. Lake diving SE toward downtown Fort Worth ?earlier this evening. Winds clocked at 60-70mph did damage to a local marina on Eagle Mt. as well as knock power out for 46,000 homes (the count at 8pm). Many reports of damage came in, we are sorting it all out the best we can for the 10pm show, will have more during the morning show tomorrow. The highest wind official wind speed was 76mph at Alliance Airport.

Highs today reached a stunning 105? at DFW this afternoon, that was within one degree of tying the record high for this date. It won?t be that hot again for the?upcoming?week. In fact, by next weekend we?ll have temperatures only in the LOW 90?s.

The storms will die out overnight, lows will drop down to the mid 70?s. Expect mostly sunny skies tomorrow. There is a small chance (20%) of storms developing in the daytime heating around Palestine and Tyler. Highs should top out just under 100 degrees thanks to a north wind that will pick up as the day continues.

Highs should be?around?100? for Tuesday to Thursday. There?ll be some storms across our northern counties on occasion through the period but the risk they?ll get into the metro area is rather low.

A much strong cold front arrives on Friday. We?ll have a good chance of storms Friday and Saturday but on the other side of that front we expect highs only in the low 90?s, an absolute chill down when you consider the average high so far in August is 102?F.
