June: Taste of Dublin and Cooking Classes ? Irish MBA

Justin?s?note: The next couple blogs?highlight events from my summer MBA term in Ireland. We are currently celebrating the conclusion of the Irish MBA by traveling around Europe so stay tuned for all the updates including the final project, Ireland reflections, and our travel tales.

One Sunday afternoon Amy and I were strolling through the streets of Dublin and?reminiscing how our time in Ireland was quickly drawing to a close. I was in the middle of my summer internship project ?(more on this in a future blog) and Amy was finishing her babysitting and church volunteering responsibilities. However just as we were discussing concluding certain activities we enjoyed a new and unexpected experience called the ?Taste of Dublin?. We entered the park and found ourselves in the middle of hundreds of local restaurants, bakeries and drink companies.

After sampling some Irish mashed potatoes, roast beef crisps, and Thai food we made our way to the cooking class booth and signed up for the next session. The event was organized by a local Irish cooking school which had all the ingredients and cooking supplies ready for us so we happily placed on our aprons and began cooking our seabass dish!

After the 30 minutes session I decided the cooking class experience was fun but I was satisfied limiting myself to just MBA classes for the time being. However Amy was ready to take on more challenges in the kitchen and talked with our teacher about signing up for?an official?class. A couple of weeks later and much to my delight, Amy had signed up for a one-week cooking course called ?Cooking for Friends?.

After the mini-cooking class Amy undertook a full-time 9-5pm cooking class for a week that included breads, main meals, and desserts. I enjoyed several samples after Amy would return home each night and enjoyed hearing stories of her teachers telling her she was a natural! The best was her new carrot cake recipe that will make its way into our family cookbook.
