Field Hockey Welcomes Class of 2016 - Women's Track and Field

ITHACA, N.Y. ? Cornell field hockey head coach Donna Hornibrook has announced the incoming class of 2016.The Big Red will add six players to next year's squad, as Stephanie Eggertson (North Vancouver, B.C.), Katie Garrity (San Carlos, Calif.), Maria Florencia Rosselot (Vina Del Mar, Chile), Elizabeth Schaeffler (Timonium, Md.), Taylor Standiford (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Marisa Siergiej (Harrison City, Pa.) will join the team for the 2012 season. The class of five comes from four different states and two foreign countries and consists of one forward, one goalkeeper, one midfielder, one back and two players that could see time at midfield or back.

?We are very excited to welcome our class of 2016,? said Hornibrook. ?Without a doubt they have a tremendous amount of potential and have the attitude, work ethic and commitment we look for in a Cornell field hockey student-athlete. We are looking forward to what they bring to our program.?


Cornell Field Hockey Class of 2016 Bios

Stephanie Eggertson ? 5-7 ? B - North Vancouver, B.C.
(Collingwood School)


Eggertson played four years for the Collingwood School, serving as team captain as a senior, and helping her team to a pair of gold medals and a silver medal at Canada's high school Provincial Games. She also won a silver medal at the 2011 U16 Canadian Nationals and a bronze medal at the U18 Canadian Nationals , serving as her team's captain at both events. Eggertson won a championship at the Western Canada Summer Games and was a three-time North Shore All-Star. She also played for the Meralomas Premier field hockey club and won the Dianna Popowich Memorial Rookie Award in 2012.

Hornibrook on Eggertson: We love Steph's poise and knowledge of the game. Her calmness and technical abilities will make her a real asset to our backfield.

Katie Garrity ? 5-4 ? F ? San Carlos, Calif.
(Saint Francis HS)

Garrity, whose brother is a linebacker for the University of Oregon football team, was a three year letter winner at Saint Francis high school, serving as team captain during her senior season. She was an NFHCA West Region All-American and was named the Blossom Valley Athletic League Senior of the Year in 2011. As a senior, she was also named first-team All Blossom Valley and was a San Jose Mercury News first team selection. Garrity helped her team to a Central Coast Section championship and was a four-time Scholar Athlete. A four-year state qualifier in track and field and a member of the school's soccer team, Garrity won the Steve Yamamoto Memorial Trophy as Saint Francis' Outstanding Senior Athlete.

Hornibrook on Garrity: Katie's explosiveness and her speed are both incredible. Those attributes, combined with her willingness to do whatever it takes to score, makes us very excited to watch her development as a player.

Maria Florencia Rosselot ? 5-4 ? M/B ? Vina Del Mar, Chile
(University of Cincinnati)

A former member of the Under-21 Chilean National field hockey squad, Rosselot comes to Cornell after spending one season playing golf for the University of Cincinnati. As a prep student, she played field hockey for St. Margaret's British School for Girls, where she was given her school's Best Player in Hockey award and was named captain of the final All-British School field hockey tournament. An all-around outstanding athlete, she won many distinctions, including MVP awards for the cross county, golf and volleyball teams. She also won the school's Sports Spirit Award and the school's Excellence Award for athletic achievement. Rosselot placed in the top-three in the 800-meter race at the All-British Schools competition, including a first-place finish in 2007. She also helped her volleyball team to a second place finish at the 2008 ABS Association tournament.

Hornibrook on Rosselot: We are anticipating that Maria will return to the same form that previously earned her a spot on the Chilean U21 squad and that her versatility and experience as a midfielder and a defender combined with her skills and quickness will make her an asset to the Cornell Field Hockey program.

Elizabeth Schaeffler ? 5-8 ? GK ? Timonium, Md.
(Dulaney HS)

Schaeffler was a three time letter winner at Dulaney high school, and led the Lions to three Maryland 4A Regional championships and three appearances in the 4A State semifinal games. As a junior, she took her team to a state championship for the first time in 26 years. Schaeffler was a four-time Baltimore County All-Academic Team selection and was named a Scholar Athlete. She won the tam's Coaches' Unsung Hero Award as a captain in 2011 and was a Baltimore County honorable mention selection in 2010. As a member of the Capitol Pegasus field hockey club, Shaeffler won a National Club championship in 2011. She also ran track and field for two years and played basketball for one season.

Hornibrook on Schaeffler: Liz has the size, passion for the game, and attention to detail that we look for in a goalkeeper. We are excited about her potential and we are expecting her play to really take off once she gets in a college environment.

Taylor Standiford ? 5-9 ? M ? Ann Arbor, Mich.
(Huron HS)

Standiford was a standout two-sport athlete at Huron high school, lettering four times in both field hockey and lacrosse and earning first-team all-state honors in both sports (field hockey ? 2010, 2011; lacrosse ? 2011). An NFHCA Midwest Regional All-American in 2011, Standiford led her team to back-to-back Division 1 State Championships in 2010 and 2011, as well as a runner-up finish in 2009. She was the team's second-leading scorer as a sophomore and junior and was the team's leading scorer as a senior. She was named to the All-Area Dream Team in 2010 and 2011 and was also her school's Most Valuable Midfielder those same seasons. In addition to being all-state in lacrosse, Standiford was also named the Ann Arbor News Player of the Year in 2010 and was a three time SEC Conference all-area team selection.?

Hornibrook on Standiford: Taylor brings her best every time she steps on the field. She is a leader, a competitor and a team player who is only scratching the surface of what she is capable of accomplishing.

Marisa Siergiej ? 5-10 ? M/B ? Harrison City, Pa.
(Penn-Trafford HS)

Siergiej was a four-year letter winner at Penn-Trafford high school, where she helped her team to a WPIAL Class AAA championship as a senior captain. She was both a WPIAL all-section selection and an All-WPIAL selection all four seasons. Siergiej led her team in scoring and was named team MVP during her junior and senior campaigns.? She also lettered four times in track and holds school records in the 4x100 relay and the 400-meter dash. As a member of the Team Golden Triangle field hockey club, Siergiej won the 2011 National Futures Championship.

Hornibrook on Siergiej: Marrisa has made tremendous strides over the past year. She has terrific physical abilities, an excellent work ethic and a level of coachability which will make her an excellent addition to our program.
