The Challenge:
This project was a modern home In Eagle, Idaho. The master bathroom had a functional design but outdated finishes. The bathroom was a work in progress when we arrived. The floor had already been removed and the toilet was leaking at the seal causing the OSB to swell and fail. The client had purchased some thin granite slabs and was interested in using them for shower walls. The soaker tub had an unattractive and impractical access panel for the jetted tub components.
The Idea:
Eliminate the shower walls, replace the fiberglass shower pan, update the plumbing and fixtures. To use the granite slabs for shower walls, double vanity, and tub face & deck. Use harmonizing tile for floors and base trim for granite and back splash. Save cost by only changing out the trim on the roman tub valve.
The Solution:
We used The clients provided granite to wrap the tub and shower. We also used Velcro for the slab on the? tub face allowing total access. We tiled the floor and used it for base and trim around the granite. We replaced the underlayment and installed a new toilet.
The Details:
This bathroom was a collaborative effort with the owner. They had purchased most of the components already in anticipation of completing the project on their own. We gave them a substantial boost and got it to the point that they felt comfortable finishing the project. There was no wall moving or window or door relocation although there was trim work, plumbing work, some electrical work, and drywall patching. The substantial part was ours, yet the client got to put the finishing touches on and essentially remodel their own master bathroom with some behind the scenes assistance.
