American Pet Products Association (APPA) is a not-for-profit association made to promote, develop and advance pet ownership and the pet products industry and to provide the services necessary to help its members prosper. APPA conducts industry-related market research and surveys to help members learn about important pet industry information. In 1988, the first year the survey was conducted, 56% of U.S. households owned a pet as compared to 62% in 2008.
According to the 2011-2012 American Pet Products Association (APPA) National Pet Owners Survey, 62% of U.S. households own a pet, which compares to 72.9 million homes.
