Meet Corey Chun who is a 9 year old 4th grader at Woodstock Elementary school. She is making it big in the world of sports at a very early age. Corey is an exceptional gymnast who competes for Excel Gymnastics, which is located on Route 9W Saugerties.
Last gymnastic season while being only 8 years old, Corey competed her first meet of the season as a level 6 gymnast.? She showed such talent that her coaches quickly moved up to a level 7. ?At level 7 a gymnast must now compete each event with her own unique routine.? Corey had only a short time to prepare these new routines before she had to proceed to a competition.??
Corey performance at the level 7 meets was so outstanding, ?that she ?not only qualified to compete in the New York State meet, but at that meet she placed ?2nd, making her, one of the top Level 7 gymnasts in New York.
?We asked Corey what her favorite event is, she replied, ?it?s a tie between Balance Beam and Bars.? Gymnastics is one of those sports where you find that the participants have such dedication and commitment.? Corey told us spends 4 hours a day, 4 days a week in the gym practicing, ?but once in a while I take a day off, because I get kind of tired?, she indicated.? Corey loves the practicing and the competitions, although she said she does get nervous at meets, especially competing floor, ?when the music comes on everyone is staring at you?, Corey stated.? When she is not in the gym her favorite past time is art, and drawing.? As you can tell by the pictures, Corey favorite color is pink.
Corey is hopeful that someday she may go on to be an Olympian.?
Keep up the great work, Corey and you just may!
