When Rankin Paynter visited a Kmart that was closing its doors in Winchester, Ky. he got an idea: Why not buy the store and donate it to charity?

That?s what he did to the surprise and delight of Clark County Community Services, which now will have enough warm clothes to hand out next winter.
Paynter, who runs Rankin Paynter Buying Center, a jewelry-exchange business, also rented a building to store the items, worth $200,000.
"What I see is people coming in my store, needy people sell their stuff," Paynter said, who owns a jewelry exchange business in Winchester. "It's bad nowadays. I just told (the clerk) let's just give it away to charity."
