Reed Smith has added a partner to its real estate practice in its Falls Church, Va. office.
David Houston, formerly a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman's Tysons Corner office, joins as a partner in the real estate practice.
Houston focuses his practice on real estate development, land use and retail leasing. He represents land developers, owner and lenders in Fairfax and Arlington County. Before joining Pillsbury in 2000, Houston was a partner in McGuire Woods' Tysons Corner office.
In an interview, Houston said that Reed Smith's national real estate platform attracted him to the firm. He added that new development in Tysons Corner and the expansion of Metro toward Washington Dulles International Airport will create work.
"There are more opportunities for real estate development in northern Virginia for land use and zoning work," Houston said. "I think it could open new doors for leasing expertise."
