Realtors Who Plan Ahead Will Save Taxes | Income Tax Taxes

Woburn, MA (PRWEB) January 31, 2006

?As a real estate agent or broker, keeping careful track of the bills you pay throughout the year will save you taxes, since you can generally deduct your professional expenses directly against your commission income,? explains Andrew Schwartz, CPA, founder of RealEstateProTaxes.com, an affiliation of CPAs throughout the country that specializes in tax planning and preparation for real estate professionals. ?Whether you use a personal finance program like Quicken or Microsoft Money, charge all your professional expenses on a separate credit card, or file away all your receipts in a big envelope, it?s important that you find a system that works for you,? says Schwartz.

Allowable expenses include anything that is ?ordinary? and ?necessary? in connection with being a realtor, including advertising costs, cell phones and internet access, gifts to clients, and professional dues and licenses, and MLS fees. A complete listing of professional expenses common to realtors is available at http://www.reptaxes.com/busexp.php.

Why are most realtors taxed as independent contractors? According to the IRS in Publication 15-A, Employer?s Supplemental Tax Guide: licensed real estate agents are treated as self-employed if ?substantially all payments for their services as real estate agents are directly related to sales rather than to the number of hours worked, and services are performed under a written contract providing that they will not be treated as employees for federal tax purposes.?

Don?t Forget Your Car

Deducting your automobile expenses is another way to save taxes. Each year, you base your deduction on either the standard mileage rate or the actual expenses incurred during the year, including insurance, gas, repairs, and lease payments or depreciation based on the car?s original cost. The standard mileage rate is 44.5 cents per business mile driven for 2006. Don?t forget to claim the business use percentage of the interest you pay on your car loan as well.

It?s a good idea to maintain some sort of mileage log throughout the year. If you ever get audited, the IRS will want you to provide a log substantiating the automobile deduction you claimed.

Employ Your Child

Do you have a child under the age of 18? If so, you?ll save some taxes by employing your child. There?s a special loophole that exempts children of self-employed individuals from paying social security, Medicare, and federal unemployment taxes on wages paid by a parent.

For 2006, as long as your child is under the age of 18, you can pay him or her up to $ 5,150, and your child won?t owe any income taxes on that money (assuming they have no other income). Even so, you get to deduct the wages paid as a business expense. Plus, your child can fund an IRA or Roth IRA with up to $ 4,000 this year based on the wages paid by you.

Now?s the time to set yourself up with the IRS as an employer if you haven?t previously done so, and to compensate your child a ?fair wage? for services provided during the year.

Save Taxes By Saving For Retirement

Setting up a self-employed retirement plan is another way to save taxes. Take a look at the Solo 401(k), which generally allows for larger contributions than a SEP IRA, provided you have no employees who work more than 1,000 hours per year except for your spouse.

With these tax advantaged retirement accounts, you can contribute as much as $ 15,000 ($ 20,000 if 50 or older) plus 20% of your net self-employment income, up to $ 44,000 for 2006. If you?re 50 or older, this year?s max increases to $ 49,000. Amounts contributed reduce your taxable income and grow tax-deferred. The deadline for setting up a Solo 401(k) is December 31st.

You also have the option of setting up a Roth 401(k) this year. With these types of accounts, you forgo a tax deduction today, but the money contributed grows tax-free.

With a SIMPLE IRA, you can contribute up to $ 10,000 ($ 12,500 if 50 or older) plus 3% of your net business income. The due date for establishing a SIMPLE IRA is October 1st.

Otherwise, you have until the due date of your tax return, including extensions, to establish and fund a SEP IRA. You can generally put away up to 20% of your net self-employment income into these tax-advantaged retirement savings accounts.

Special Tax Break for Realtors

If you own rental real estate, planning ahead will ensure that you?re able to max out the rental losses you can claim. As a realtor, the ?passive loss? rules that limit deductible rental losses to just $ 25,000 per year don?t apply to you. To qualify for this exception, however, you need to spend more than half your time, and at least 750 hours, during the year working in the real estate trade. Plan your schedule accordingly throughout the year so you?ll meet these two requirements.

Avoid Underpayment Penalties

As an independent contractor, it?s usually up to you to pay your own taxes by submitting quarterly estimates. Failure to pay sufficient estimates in a timely manner could lead to costly IRS penalties.

Get in the habit of setting aside a portion of each of your commission checks into a savings or money market account for your taxes. Not only will you avoid spending your tax money, you?ll also be rewarded with a little interest income as well.

Get A Jump on Your 2006 Planning:

?Even though you probably haven?t filed your 2005 income tax returns yet, it?s not too early to start taking steps to cut your 2006 tax bill,? says Schwartz.

(AP) ? Coming off a rare birdie, Tiger Woods was trying to keep at least a little momentum on his side with a 4-foot par putt on the 16th hole. When it caught the left edge of the cup and dipped out, he froze.

The ball rolled 360 degrees along the rim before it plopped back in, and Woods wasn't sure what to think.

The way his return to golf went Thursday in the Frys.com Open, he half-expected it to stay out.

Despite finding six bunkers, losing a ball in the hazard, hitting only half of his fairways and half of his greens, Woods had few complaints about his first competition in seven weeks.

Except for his putter.

"Not happy," he said after walking off the 18th green with a 2-over 73.

Texas Open winner Brendan Steele shot a 31 on the back nine for a 4-under 67, putting him in a four-way tie for the lead with Garrett Willis, Briny Baird and Matt Bettencourt.

With a chill in the air, clouds creeping down off the foothills and occasional bursts of showers, low scores were at a premium. Only 36 players in the 132-man field managed to break par. One of them came from Woods' group ? UCLA sophomore Patrick Cantlay, who outplayed Woods, especially on the greens, and had a 2-under 69.

For Woods, it was his sixth consecutive round in which he failed to break par, and in a tie for 86th, he was in danger of missing consecutive cuts for the first time in his 15-year career.

"That's probably one of the worst putting rounds I've ever had," Woods said. "I can't putt the ball any worse than I did today."

Woods headed to the practice green at CordeValle in the chill of late afternoon, trying to find something. This is his final PGA Tour event of the year, and a chance to quiet the critics of Fred Couples' decision to make him a captain's pick for the Presidents Cup team, a move that left out PGA champion Keegan Bradley.

That was the last thing on Woods' mind.

"I'm just playing to get competitive and win a golf tournament," Woods said. "It's not about validation. It's about going out there and playing. And right now, I'm six back. I need to put together a good round tomorrow and gradually piece my way back into the tournament."

Woods had not played since the PGA Championship on Aug. 12, when he missed the cut for only the third time in a major and finished out of the top 100 for the first time in a major.

Seven weeks later, not much changed.

A birdie on the opening hole to raise hopes that the former No. 1 player ? now at No. 51 ? might be on his way back. That lasted all of one hole, when he hit three straight shots out of the sand on his way to a bogey, then dropped another shot by missing a 3-foot par putt. The next two holes were pars, but hardly inspiring.

He pulled a tee shot, looking at his hand to suggest it slipped off the club in a light rain. And on the fifth hole, he popped up a fairway metal ? the divot on the tee looked like it belonged to a 5-iron ? that left him 70 yards behind Louis Oosthuizen.

Even so, Woods said he was generally pleased except for one club in the bag. And it's the one club that has haunted him dating to the 2009 PGA Championship, where he lost a four-shot lead on the weekend to Y.E. Yang at Hazeltine.

Woods said the time off since the PGA Championship at least gave him time to practice, to nail down the major work in his swing change with coach Sean Foley, and to play 36 holes a day at home in Florida.

Being back on the PGA Tour was different, even if it looked the same.

He attributed it all on his putter, and trying to make adjustments during the round didn't help.

"My stroke got worse because I was trying to do it, and then I started losing confidence in it because I wasn't hitting my line," he said. "So it was just a downward spiraling. The rest of the game was not too bad. I hit some bad shots, yes. But also I hit some really good ones. And very pleased at the shots I was hitting most of the day. But I got nothing out of the round on the greens.

"And whatever momentum I could have gotten by hitting good shots ... you know, I just missed putts."

Along with that 3-foot par putt he missed on No. 3, Woods missed a simple 6-foot birdie putt on the ninth that would have put him back at even par at the turn, and a 4-foot birdie putt on the 11th.

And then, Woods made a mess of the par-5 12th. From the left rough, the grass grabbed his club and pulled the shot toward the hazard. Woods never found the ball, had to return to the other side of a creek and lay up short of another hazard in front of the green. He had to work hard to two-putt from 35 feet for double bogey.

The last time Woods missed consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour was in 1994, when he was an 18-year-old amateur. In fact, he missed his first seven cuts as an amateur. On the PGA Tour, he has missed the 36-hole cut only seven times in his career.

While questions persist whether Woods should have been picked for the Presidents Cup, the only questions for Cantlay is why he bothered returning to UCLA. He was the low amateur at the U.S. Open, set a record at the Travelers Championship with a 60 in the second round and is No. 1 in the world amateur ranking.

Beating a 14-time major champion by four shots didn't impress him.

"He played how he played," Cantlay said. "I didn't have any expectations for what he was going to do, or what anybody else was going to do, except for myself."

Cantlay is not one to easily get flustered, even playing with Woods, and it showed on the opening hole. Stepping up to his tee shot, he let out a gaping yawn, then smashed his drive down the fairway.

For the rest of the day, the UCLA sophomore outplayed Woods.

These days, that's not saying much.

Increasing Your Child's Ability to Cope With School Bullying ...

School Kids - Pediatric Associates Inc.
School Kids - Pediatric Associates Inc.

This article looks at ways parents can assist their child with coping with what has become a significant form of violence in the school setting.

The schools in our area have now been in session for about six weeks. This is a good time to begin thinking about school bullying and increasing our children?s ability to cope. As in most cases, it is better to be proactive than reactive.

So just what is school bullying? First, we need to know one in every four children in the United States is bullied and one in five students define themselves as bullies (Lumsden, 2002). School Bullying is now the most prevalent form of low level violence in the schools today (Whitted & Dupper, 2005). School Bullying is defined as "A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself" (Olweus, 2011). Olweus asserts bullying has three important components;

Bullying is aggressive behavior that involves unwanted, negative actions.

Bullying involves a pattern of behavior repeated over time.

Bullying involves an imbalance of power or strength.

Bullying may include;

Derogatory comments and bad names.

Social exclusion or isolation.

Physical attacks.

Extortion of money or other personal property.

Racial bullying.

Sexual bullying.

Cyber bullying (via cell phone or Internet).

It is important to be proactive in bullying because the victim of the bullying may become susceptible to any number of anxiety and/or mood disorders. Research has shown there is a high correlation between suicide attempt and ideation and bullying victimization (Hinjuda & Patchin, 2010). Bullying is a serious form of violence and has substantial impacts on the health of our children.

Parents and other care givers have an obligation to be aware of and protective of their children This is especially so when there is a concern or instance of bullying. So the question becomes how will a parent know if their child is being bullied? Some of the more common signals of bullying includes;

A child who evidences a profound aversion towards attending school or school related activities.

Children who reflect low self esteem.

Children who seem especially anxious or have frequent mood swings.

Children who isolate themselves and/or have few friends.

Children who have frequent violent encounters with their peers.

Children who bring weapons to school.

If a parent sees any of these behaviors from their child they should begin to suspect and inquire about school bullying. At the very least, if a parent sees any of these behaviors from their child it is time to begin having discussions with their child. The concern becomes this is a reactive posture. So how can one take a proactive posture? A proactive posture requires the development of and implementing ongoing strategies that will alert the parent when conditions have changed with our child.

The first of these strategies must be, a parent must be an observer of their child. Learn their patterns, their behaviors, and their inclinations. When there are any unexplained deviations or changes there may be a need to intervene. It is important to note most children who are being victimized will not report their situations. So parents must be observers of their children.

In addition to being observers, parents must develop good communication with their children. There should be daily time set aside to discuss the child?s experience in school or school related activities. These should be free talks more from a peer to peer dynamic. Parents should not present themselves as investigators but rather interested listeners to their children. When children discuss their feelings or concerns this is not a time to demean or criticize. It is a time to be empathetic and reflective on what the child is expressing. All of this requires, of course, that the parent learn to be ACTIVE LISTENERS!!!

Additionally, parents should be active in their child?s school. Parents should introduce themselves to the administrators, guidance staff, and faculty at the school. Give all of these professionals your contact information. Let them know they have access to you anytime they feel necessary. Conversely, parents should be an advocate for their child. The parent should present themselves to the school whenever they have issues with the child?s experience in the school. When parents model proper, effective advocacy before their child they engender the trust of the child and teach the child effective advocacy for themselves.

Parents must teach their child ways to effectively disengage or avoid negative, conflictual experiences. More, the child needs to learn how to report negative experiences to the responsible persons at the school. They must learn how to be factual and non emotional in order that they be received and not considered simply ?tattling?.

Finally, parents must monitor their child?s use of the computer. This is especially important in regards to social media sites. Children must have limits on their daily use of computer and be restricted from abusive or troublesome internet sites. Parents have to learn how to use the software tools for restricting access to undesirable sites and use these tools judiciously. Parents are not bad guys because the lock their kids out of certain internet addresses. DO IT!

These are just a few of the strategies a parent can use to assist their child in coping with school bullying. Remember, the more proactive we are, the less reactive we must become.

Tai Chi for Health and for Science | Oval Egg Articles

Let's appreciate what Abraham has to say on the subject of Tai Chi for Health and for Science. Not loads of people know concerning "Mind Body Spirit" subject matter because media has not bothered and people associated with this topic have not been vocal enough. However that is shifting at this time, more people are coming to recognize about Mind Body Spirit because of proliferation of media outlets. Experts advise that if the subject matter is crucial to you then you got to examine it with full awareness and not scan over the writing.

The author Abraham David is responsible for composing this write-up Please link to this web page if you take this piece of writing for any reason. Article on "Tai Chi for Health and for Science" starts after this.

Article Starts from Here:

Tai Chi is not only a mere form of exercise. It can look like that but in reality and basing on the principles of every movement, it is more than what meets the eye. Tai Chi focuses in a lot of things but most especially with two main factors: health and science.

Health

Tai Chi is a Chinese tradition carried down from generation to generation that is done by slow flowing moves and balance shifting that strengthens the legs. While doing so, it conditions the ligaments and tendons of the knees, hips and ankles. It will increase the range of a person?s motion and make him or her more resilient and decrease the tendencies to be prone to pain and muscle spasms.

This shift in constant weight trains the body to balance and be more aware of its own status. It will lead to a more confident smoothness of movement that is practiced in the form and can be incorporated with everyday living. Tai Chi, through its physical exercises will readily focus the mind and condition the body. To practice Tai Chi for 15 to 20 minutes will dissipate stress and reduce any stress-related factors that will help increase stamina and strengthen the will and body.

People in the medical field recognize the advantages of practicing Tai Chi. Some of the benefits that were said ? reduce risk of hypertension, increase oxygen intake and utilization that can lead to a more efficient breathing, strengthens the cardiovascular stamina, increase strength of joints and range of motion, the legs and knee are more powerful, and flexibility is increased. Stress hormones are reduced; making immunity improved and will heighten states of your mood.

Science

Science has discovered more benefits derived from being engaged in Tai Chi. By studying the smallest living organism inside our body, it is concluded that Tai Chi works through atoms and molecules inside and out. It has become a major exploration to research on what Tai Chi can and cannot do to our body.

Notice: Please beware that everything said in this write-up on "Tai Chi for Health and for Science" ought to not be taken as guidance from specialist, you must find out specifics from more authentic places as well. Please ask a specialist of the applicable field. OvalEgg.com is not responsible for any damages of any kind that may arise from applying information contained in this article.

Tai Chi conditions the different parts of the body. It cultivates a certain energy that travels through the sleeves of every muscle and nerve and those that come in between like films that are responsible for supporting and separating the different organs. Tai Chi reduces every cross-linking chemical that can contribute for cells to rust that may result to malfunctioning or strictly dying.

Aside from that, Tai Chi serves as a communicating factor for the relationship of organs to be more intimate. If Tai Chi is practiced at a certain level of discipline, it will, by then, be able to precipitate healthy changes deep inside the body like flushing out blood and making it flow freely around the vessels without the slightest fear of having a heart attack.

At the age of 50, physical strength declines. But with the help of Tai Chi exercises, it makes the major muscles in the body and almost all joints produce the perfect rhythm thereafter. It primes the body and increases the legs for it to become more flexible and loose. Studies show that people who are in the 80s and 90s are less prone to falling and their blood pressure decreased upon practicing Tai Chi.

It is most advisable to practice Tai Chi in the early morning when the sun is expected to rise to be able to catch more vitamins from the freshness of sunlight.

Thanks for taking a look at this peace of writing from Abraham. If you are planning to take this composition for your use in any way, please link back to this page. I hope you appreciated what I wrote on "Tai Chi for Health and for Science". I would be happy to know what you think about it, negative or optimistic. Please put down a comment below and show me you are alive.
