(AP) ? Pakistan has blocked vital supply routes for U.S.-led troops in Afghanistan and demanded Washington vacate a base used by American drones after coalition aircraft allegedly killed 24 Pakistani troops at two posts along a mountainous frontier that serves as a safe haven for militants.

The incident Saturday was a major blow to American efforts to rebuild an already tattered alliance vital to winding down the 10-year-old Afghan war. Islamabad called the bloodshed in one of its tribal areas a "grave infringement" of the country's sovereignty, and it could make it even more difficult for the U.S. to enlist Pakistan's help in pushing Afghan insurgents to engage in peace talks.

A NATO spokesman said it was likely that coalition airstrikes caused Pakistani casualties, but an investigation was being conducted to determine the details. If confirmed, it would be the deadliest friendly fire incident by NATO against Pakistani troops since the Afghan war began a decade ago.

A prolonged closure of Pakistan's two Afghan border crossings to NATO supplies could cause serious problems for the coalition. The U.S., which is the largest member of the NATO force in Afghanistan, ships more than 30 percent of its non-lethal supplies through Pakistan. The coalition has alternative routes through Central Asia into northern Afghanistan, but they are costlier and less efficient.

Pakistan temporarily closed one of its Afghan crossings to NATO supplies last year after U.S. helicopters accidentally killed two Pakistani soldiers. Suspected militants took advantage of the impasse to launch attacks against stranded or rerouted trucks carrying NATO supplies. The government reopened the border after about 10 days when the U.S. apologized. NATO said at the time the relatively short closure did not significantly affect its ability to keep its troops supplied.

But the reported casualties are much greater this time, and the relationship between Pakistan and the U.S. has severely deteriorated over the last year, especially following the covert American raid that killed Osama bin Laden in a Pakistani garrison town in May. Islamabad was outraged that it wasn't told about the operation beforehand.

The government announced it closed its border crossings to NATO in a statement issued after an emergency meeting of the Cabinet's defense committee chaired by Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

It also said that within 15 days the U.S. must vacate Shamsi Air Base, which is located in southwestern Baluchistan province. The U.S. uses the base to service drones that target al-Qaida and Taliban militants in Pakistan's tribal region when they cannot return to their bases inside Afghanistan because of weather conditions or mechanical difficulty, said U.S. and Pakistani officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive strategic matters.

The government also plans to review all diplomatic, military and intelligence cooperation with the U.S. and other NATO forces, according to the statement issued after the defense committee meeting.

The White House said that senior U.S. civilian and military officials had expressed their condolences to their Pakistani counterparts.

The White House statement said the officials expressed "our desire to work together to determine what took place, and our commitment to the U.S.-Pakistan partnership which advances our shared interests, including fighting terrorism in the region."

The White House statement did not address Pakistan's decision to block supply routes for the war in Afghanistan or its demand that the U.S. vacate the drone base.

The Pakistani army said Saturday that NATO helicopters and fighter jets carried out an "unprovoked" attack on two of its border posts in the Mohmand tribal area before dawn, killing 24 soldiers and wounding 13 others. The troops responded in self-defense "with all available weapons," an army statement said.

Pakistan army chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani condemned the attack, calling it a "blatant and unacceptable act," according to the statement.

A spokesman for NATO forces, Brig. Gen. Carsten Jacobson, said Afghan and coalition troops were operating in the border area of eastern Afghanistan when "a tactical situation" prompted them to call in close air support. It is "highly likely" that the airstrikes caused Pakistani casualties, he told BBC television.

"My most sincere and personal heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of any members of Pakistan security forces who may have been killed or injured," Gen. John Allen, the top overall commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, said in a statement.

The border issue is a major source of tension between Islamabad and Washington, which is committed to withdrawing its combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2014.

Much of the violence in Afghanistan is carried out by insurgents who are based just across the border in Pakistan. Coalition forces are not allowed to cross the frontier to attack the militants. However, the militants sometimes fire artillery and rockets across the line, reportedly from locations close to Pakistani army posts.

American officials have repeatedly accused Pakistani forces of supporting ? or turning a blind eye ? to militants using its territory for cross-border attacks. But militants based in Afghanistan have also been attacking Pakistan recently, prompting complaints from Islamabad.

The two posts that were attacked Saturday were located about 1,000 feet (300 meters) apart on a mountain top and were set up recently to stop Pakistani Taliban militants holed up in Afghanistan from crossing the border and staging attacks, said local government and security officials.

There was no militant activity in the area when the alleged NATO attack occurred, local officials said. Some of the soldiers were standing guard, while others were asleep, they said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Pakistan army spokesman Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas said map references of all of the force's border posts have been given to NATO several times.

Pakistan's prime minister summoned U.S. Ambassador Cameron Munter to protest the alleged NATO strike, according to a Foreign Ministry statement. It said the attack was a "grave infringement of Pakistan's sovereignty" and could have serious repercussions on Pakistan's cooperation with NATO.

Munter said in a statement that he regretted any Pakistani deaths and promised to work closely with Islamabad to investigate the incident.

The U.S., Pakistan, and Afghan militaries have long wrestled with the technical difficulties of patrolling a border that in many places is disputed or poorly marked. Saturday's incident took place a day after a meeting between NATO's Gen. Allen and Pakistan army chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in Islamabad to discuss border operations.

The meeting tackled "coordination, communication and procedures ... aimed at enhancing border control on both sides," according to a statement from the Pakistani side.

The U.S. helicopter attack that killed two Pakistani soldiers on Sept. 30 of last year took place south of Mohmand in the Kurram tribal area. A joint U.S.-Pakistan investigation found that Pakistani soldiers fired at the two U.S. helicopters prior to the attack, a move the investigation team said was likely meant to notify the aircraft of their presence after they passed into Pakistani airspace several times.

A U.S. airstrike in June 2008 reportedly killed 11 Pakistani paramilitary troops during a clash between militants and coalition forces in the tribal region.

Moussa Boubacar was inside the Amanar Restaurant on the northern edge of the city.

He said the armed men burst in around 2:30 p.m. Friday and told the four tourists dining there to follow them.

Boubacar said the tourists were European.

One of them, an elderly man, refused to get inside the car and Boubacar said they killed him on the spot.

Timbuktu is one of the many former tourist destinations in Mali that have been deemed too dangerous to visit by foreign embassies due to the risk of kidnapping by the local chapter of al-Qaida.

The kidnapping Friday comes after two French citizens were grabbed in the Malian town of Hombori Thursday.

I'm searching for someone who is literate,
good with grammar and someone who isn't
afraid to write long posts because I love writing.
And depending on how inspired I am, I can write
any where from 4-10 paragraphs. Or if you want
word count, my posts can go anywhere from 800-1500,
although it really depends on how inspired I am by
the rp, or better yet what you give me. I have been
roleplaying for over ten years, so I have plenty
experience to satisfy your roleplaying needs!

Here are my samples and I'd appreciate seeing some of yours <3

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A few rules, just a few! And please read them!

Once again, sorry if I sound too serious!

?Romance is NOT a must. I don't like starting off by saying my character will fall in love with your character. I also don't try and mold my characters into a perfect someone for your character. If our characters fall for each other, they fall. If not, they don't! End of story! I also will NOT do love at first sight. It's called character development and love at first sight doesn't fit into character development's definition.

?OOC chat is required <3

?I only roleplay on threads!

?Be able to provide me with 600 words or more - no less. I take quality over quantity for sure, but if you can't stick to at least 600 words or more, then we aren't meant to be! I'm getting strickter - sorry! I'm looking for someone who is able to keep up with my writing...

?Be nice.

?Proper Grammar

?If we do a canon x OC, then doubling is a must.

?no one liners, I'm warning you now. I will drop the roleplay - as harsh as it sounds.
I just can't work with one liners.

?I will go only as far as doubling - no more. And keep in mind that it is only Canon x OC that I double.I will have one canon and one OC if we double. With everything else we have one main character and the rest of ours are side characters.

?I refuse to go into a roleplay without first coming up with a plot
. And I refuse to come up with a plot all by myself unless
I already have a plot for that subject.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Will:

-Do Heterosexual roleplays
-Do homosexual roleplays (and for the sake of my sanity don't call it yuri or yaoi! I will ignore you out of pure annoyance!)
-Play females and males
-Will contribute to the plot.
-Is up for suggestions - as in if you don't see an anime (or other fandom) up there that you know/like, throw in something! I may or may not know/like what you suggest!
-I am open to any original roleplay setting, just suggest!

Wont's:

-Naruto (Sorry, don't know it!)
-Roleplay with someone who doesn't help contribute to the plot.
-Won't roleplay with someone who does one liners.
-Bestiality
-Any strange fetish for that matter.
-Anime in which I've never heard of before.
-Twilight (Don't even ask.)
-Roleplay via any sort of messenger.

I think that's it.

I really hope you're interested! PM me if you are!

Canned cranberries: traditional as homemade turkey (AP)

CHICAGO ? In an era where there are television networks devoted to home cooking and dietitians warn against the dangers of processed foods, the love of canned cranberry seems to be a bit of dietary discord.

Devotees of canned cranberry sauce say the reasons begin and end with the past, and that the sight of the glistening can-shaped tube of jelly conjures up memories of Thanksgiving meals of long ago.

"It looks like a log of happiness," said Shannon Ervin, a 24-year-old mother of three in Harahan, La., who can't remember a Thanksgiving when canned cranberry sauce wasn't served.

Ocean Spray, the nation's largest producer of cranberry sauce, reports that of the 86.4 million cans it sells a year, 72 million of them are sold between September and the end of December.

On Facebook, groups devoted to canned cranberry sauce have popped up. Nicholas Mackara and a friend, Alexandra Shephard, launched one a few years back called, "Cranberry Sauce in the shape of the can makes my Thanksgiving."

There's also one entitled, "When Cranberry Sauce comes out of the can with ridges," and another called "Cranberry Sauce is only good if it's in the shape of a can." That one includes the motto: "If it ain't from a can, it's garbage."

"I think the ridges are the most important part," said Mackara, 21, of Clementon, N.J. "Then you know it definitely came from a can and our mom didn't make her own (cranberry) sauce and put it in a cylinder shape before we got there."

Sandy Oliver, a food historian, said it would be hard to overstate the importance of canned cranberry sauce to some families, particularly for a holiday in which even the slightest change in the menu is viewed as a treasonous offense.

"You don't mess with Thanksgiving," said Oliver, co-author of "Giving Thanks: Thanksgiving Recipes and History, from Pilgrims to Pumpkin Pie." "If you grew up with canned cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving, that is what will taste right for you at the table and if you do something else it is going to be at variance with your childhood memory."

As a result, normally sophisticated eaters load up their plates with the same green bean casseroles, Jell-O salad ? heavy on the mini marshmallows ? and the white bread stuffing their parents piled on their plates when they were busy kicking their brothers and sisters under the table.

"My aunt one year brought over the homemade kind and nobody but her ate it," said Heather Hoffman, a 24-year-old Chicago teacher, who has had canned cranberry sauce since her grandmother served it when she was a little girl.

Robert Sietsema has heard those kinds of comments before. The New York writer recently included canned cranberry sauce among his five worst Thanksgiving dishes for a blog on the Village Voice and can't believe anybody would eat canned cranberry sauce if they didn't have to.

"I hate it, it's just awful," said Sietsema. "To begin with, nobody eats things from cans any more if they can afford not to." Especially, he says if it's "some kind of freak Jell-O."

Maybe so. But Alexandra Shephard arrived at her parents' house in Williamsburg, Va. from her home in Orlando, Fla., this week fully expecting the familiar sight of cranberry sauce sliding from the can to a dish.

"I remember how intrigued I was at the lump of red jelly stuff that retained the shape of a can," said Shephard, who started the Facebook page with Mackara a couple years back. "I don't remember actually eating it (but) I remember it was always at the table."

Her father, she said, would only eat the canned sauce so eventually she got her courage up and tried homemade cranberry sauce even though she knew she didn't like the taste of the bitter little red berries. And she liked them, precisely because it didn't taste like cranberries.

She looks at it as a feat of engineering that the can-shaped sauce can keep its figure for hours. And she eats it because, just as Oliver suggested, she likes the uncranberryness of sauce, from the texture to the sweet taste.

For Bruce Scheonberger, presentation is everything. That helps explain why the 54-year-old Toledo attorney was eager to share a technique that ensures the cranberry sauce he puts on the table this Thanksgiving will look exactly the same as it always has.

After completely opening one end of the can, he makes a small opening in the other end. "You blow in it gently and it slides out and retains all of its ridges," he said. "I have it sitting straight up like a can."

Teen hurt during Georgia nail salon fracas

(AP) ? A teenage girl's teeth were shattered when a large porcelain bowl struck her in the face during a brawl inside a suburban Atlanta nail salon that may have been touched off by a dispute over pricing.

Gail Dudley tells WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/v1qz18) that her 17-year-old daughter Ashley Corbett was waiting to have her nails done when others began fighting in the Regal Nails inside a Walmart store in Snellville on Monday night. Someone threw a bowl used by customers to soak their nails, and it shattered as it struck the girl in her face.

According to the girl and her mother, the incident started when a woman came in and complained about the prices.

Dudley says her daughter, who was treated at a hospital, was an innocent bystander. Police are investigating.

AAXA?s P4 Pico Projector Puts 80 Lumens In Your Palm

p4_pico_projector_tripodI've gotten to review a few pico projectors, but haven't had the opportunity to test one from AAXA. This new one, the P4, looks like it could stand up to my favorite so far, the 3M MP160. Like that device, AAXA's P4 sacrifices smallness for brightness, and ends up beating the competition by some margin.

Khmer Rouge No. 2 says regime acted for Cambodians (AP)

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia ? The No. 2 leader in the Khmer Rouge regime accused of orchestrating Cambodia's "killing fields" in the 1970s insisted Tuesday that he carried out its policies for the sake of the country and to protect it from invaders.

Nuon Chea did not directly respond to the horrors described by prosecutors at a U.N.-backed tribunal, and instead gave a political history of the Khmer Rouge and Cambodia, insisting his role was patriotic and blaming neighboring Vietnam for much of the country's troubles.

"I had to leave my family behind to liberate my motherland from colonialism and aggression and oppression by the thieves who wish to steal our land and whip Cambodia off the face of the earth," Nuon Chea said in his first public comments at the trial, which began Monday.

"We wanted to free Cambodia from being a servant of other countries and we wanted to build Cambodia as a society that is clean and independent without any killing of people or genocide," he said.

The panel is seeking justice on behalf of the 1.7 million estimated to have died from executions, starvation, disease and overwork when the Khmer Rouge held power in 1975-79.

It has charged the three most senior surviving members of the regime ? Nuon Chea, 85; former head of state Khieu Samphan, 80; and former Foreign Minister Ieng Sary, 86 ? with crimes against humanity, genocide, religious persecution, homicide and torture. All claim innocence.

Nuon Chea, the communist movement's chief ideologist, was its second-highest leader after Pol Pot, who died in 1998 in a jungle while a prisoner of his own comrades. Prosecutors earlier Tuesday told the court that the defendants cannot blame Pol Pot alone for the atrocities that took place.

Prosecutor Andrew Cayley said that like Pol Pot, the defendants exercised life-and-death authority over Cambodia while in power.

"The accused cannot credibly claim they did not know and had no control over the crimes that occurred" when they ruled what they called Democratic Kampuchea, he said.

In their opening statements, prosecutors described a litany of horrors, saying the Khmer Rouge sought to crush not just all its enemies, but seemingly the human spirit.

Most people were forced to work on giant rural communes and deprived of any private life. Forced marriages took the place of love, and dissenters were dispatched to so-called "killing fields."

"Here in Cambodia, a unique opportunity has been given ... to set a powerful example, and to send a strong warning from the past to the future so that human beings everywhere can rightfully expect to live in peace under the law," Cayley said.

Nuon Chea, who spoke in time allotted for defense rebuttals of the prosecutors' statements, did little to directly address the allegations of atrocities.

He said concern about Vietnamese intentions contributed to the Khmer Rouge's decision to stage a forced mass evacuation of Phnom Penh immediately after they captured the capital in 1975.

The city's evacuation is expected to be a focus of the trial. The tribunal has split the charges into separate trials to speed the process, and the current proceedings are considering allegations involving the forced movement of people and crimes against humanity.

Michael Karnavas, one of the lawyers for Ieng Sary, asked Tuesday that his client be allowed to follow the proceedings from a special room outside the courtroom to ease the physical burden on him. Judge Nil Nonn denied the request, as he did with a previous appeal on Monday, saying it was important for all the defendants to be present for the prosecution's statement.

The defendants are old and infirm, and there are fears they won't live long enough for justice to be achieved.

A fourth defendant, former Minister for Social Affairs Ieng Thirith, 79, was ruled unfit to stand trial last week because she has Alzheimer's disease. Prosecutors have appealed against her unconditional release and she remains detained pending a court decision.

Even streamlined, the proceedings are likely to cover an enormous amount of ground, and there is no estimate of how long they will take. The defense has until Thursday to finish its response to the prosecution's statements, and actual testimony is to begin Dec. 5.

The tribunal, which was established in 2006, has tried just one case, convicting former prison chief Kaing Guek Eav for war crimes, crimes against humanity and other offenses. His sentence was reduced to 19 years due to time served and other technicalities.

Japan October exports disappoint as yen, global slowdown (Reuters)

TOKYO (Reuters) ? Japan's exports fell at the fastest pace in five months in the year to October and the worse than expected result signaled more weakness ahead as a strong yen and sputtering global growth weigh on the recuperating economy.

Although Japan's economy expanded 1.5 percent in the previous quarter, rebounding from recession triggered by March earthquake and subsequent nuclear crisis, it is expected to slow sharply in October-December. Severe floods in Thailand, a major manufacturing base for many Japanese exporters, are expected to add to global headwinds faced by the world's third-biggest economy.

Exports fell 3.7 percent last month from a year earlier, far more than a 0.3 percent dip forecast by economists and the data follows the central bank's warning that government debt woes in Europe were already hurting Japan and emerging economies.

The October fall follows a 2.3 percent rise in September and was the biggest drop since a 10.3 percent fall in May, with shipments of semiconductors and other electronic goods falling due to strength in the yen.

"The global slowdown stemming from Europe's debt crisis, sluggish IT-related demand and the yen's rise which is driving production abroad were among the factors behind the decline," a finance ministry official said.

He added that the impact of Thai flooding may further hurt Japan's exports in the coming months.

Thai-bound exports fell 5.1 percent, the first annual decline in three months.

The Bank of Japan held fire last week after easing policy by boosting its asset buying scheme in October, but economists say signs of more weakness may put it under pressure to loosen monetary reins further.

"Exports will likely continue to fall for the next few months," said Takeshi Minami, chief economist at Norinchukin Research Institute.

"There is a chance that the BOJ will adopt further easing steps within this fiscal year. It is not yet a real crisis situation but the impact from Europe's debt woes is gradually affecting other economic regions."

One of the triggers of the October 27 monetary easing was the yen's rally to record highs against the dollar driven by investors shifting funds away from Europe and other riskier markets into highly liquid and relatively stable Japanese debt.

Some BOJ board members have argued that purchases of government bonds with short maturities worked to stabilize the foreign exchange market, BOJ minutes showed on Monday.

Just days after the central bank move, the finance ministry ordered its biggest ever single-day intervention, selling an estimated 7.7 trillion yen on October 31.

IMPORTS SURGE

Exports to China, Japan's largest trading partner, slumped an annual 7.7 percent, posting their biggest decline since May.

Shipments to the United States fell 2.3 percent, while those to European Union dropped 2.9 percent, down for the first time in five months and bringing Japan's trade surplus with the region to its smallest since 1979 for the month of October.

Imports were up 17.9 percent in October from a year earlier, against an expected 15.2 percent gain, bringing the trade balance to a deficit of 273.8 billion yen ($3.6 billion). That marked the first deficit in two months and compared with a median forecast of a 39.9 billion yen surplus.

Japan's trade balance has swung to a deficit a few times since the March disaster as exports slumped due to damaged supply chains while imports continued to increase on rising demand for crude oil and natural gas to make up for a loss of nuclear energy as well as higher oil prices.

Kingfisher: aircraft makers provided financial support (Reuters)

MUMBAI (Reuters) ? Kingfisher Airlines said on Tuesday aircraft manufacturers have provided support to the cash-strapped carrier in various forms including financial support.

"These manufacturers, with a view to supporting the expansion and development of the company's fleet, have provided support in various forms including financial support," Kingfisher said.

The airline, which has cancelled scores of flights and is struggling to raise funds, also said the government was "actively considering" a reduction in jet fuel prices and sales tax on fuel.

Kingfisher's statement was part of a limited review report dated Nov. 15.

DeeDee Garcia Blase: Letter from Immigration Ground Zero to Senator Marco Rubio

Dear Senator Marco Rubio,

The immigration tide is turning since the downfall of Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce, who launched a wave of anti-immigrant state laws across the nation that began with the harsh law in Arizona, which you supported.

We recently learnt that you want the GOP to tone down the anti-immigrant rhetoric; however, we need more than just lip service from you. You see the problem, and the reason for Republican State lawmakers implementing their anti-immigrant bills that comes with the nasty and hateful rhetoric, has much to do with the broken immigration system. There is no question the system is broken, and it seems as if all state Republican lawmakers are drumming to the same beat and to the tune of: "It is the responsibility of the government to fix the immigration system." That's where you come in as a federal lawmaker. As a federal lawmaker, it is your duty to step in and help fix the broken federal immigration policy, and to respect the supremacy clause that keeps our states united and to protect the United States Constitution. It is simply unreasonable to have 50 different immigration laws throughout the country while maintaining sound relationships and trade agreements with our neighbors.

We are asking for more than just lip service and a mere request to tone down anti-immigrant rhetoric. We would like for federal lawmakers like you to fix the broken immigration system. You can do so by simply calling Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey and working with the legal immigration reform bill he has implemented. His office should be willing to work with you on getting a reasonable plan underway. Senator Menendez needs one Republican sponsor -- and I believe that you can be that sponsor.

So far, all we have seen from you is your enforcement-only support for large government and bureaucratic ideas via national e-verify. E-verify puts additional burdens on the small business owner. We know that enforcement-only policies do not work, and this is proven when we have already achieved 100% of operational goals under the Bush Secure Fence Act of 2006. It is now time to also work on a plan that will bring my people out (and several others in the international community) from the shadows of society.

I don't believe you can quite empathize with our pain, since you are of Cuban descent and may not understand how harsh anti-immigrant laws affect us. Perhaps it is because you are taking advantage of how several in Florida have benefitted from privileged Cuban amnesty under the Cuban Adjustment Act (CAA). Several ethnic communities from across the globe do not receive a privileged amnesty, and it can start with your help, Mr. Rubio. You have the power to help other immigrants with the power afforded to you, and all you have to do is reach across the aisle with Senator Robert Menendez and work on fixing the broken system. Unlike Idaho Republican Congressman Ra?l R. Labrador who wants to do away with the CAA, the Tequila Party fully supports Cuban immigrants coming into our country under the CAA just as we do other immigrants who flee their corrupt nations to achieve the American dream.

Our Tequila Party has the support of your own Floridian Cuban immigrants who hurt to see you take anti-DREAM Act and enforcement-only approaches on the immigration system. Cuban-Americans fully recognize that those of Cuban descent only make up 3% of the total Hispanic population pie, and they are concerned about Mexican-American and Cuban-American relationships. Those of Mexican descent make up almost 70% of the Hispanic population pie, and this is why your own constituents have reached out to us. They want us (Tequila Party leaders) to help free Cuba with the strength of our "Mexican-American" numbers. We are fully prepared to help and direct our efforts to "FREE CUBA / CUBA LIBRE" but that is contingent upon whether or not Cuban senators step up to the plate during a tough Latino-American era. Senator Bob Menendez has already taken that first step because he has not forgotten about the struggles of immigrants. Jos? Mart? once said: "He who could have been a torch and stoops to being a pair of jaws is a deserter." As such, there are several international immigrants who do not benefit from immigration privileges or amnesty and we believe you have the ability to be a torch.

Legal immigration reform is past due, and we are late as record numbers get deported. We are asking that you get on the right side of the immigration issue right now because the Latino community has been asking you to get on the right side for months. History will record in this difficult anti-Latino era who was compassionate and who was not in the time of our need.

Please contact Senator Menendez to hammer out a reasonable secure borders and legal immigration reform plan. Being a leader means we need to make tough decisions during a time when it is unpopular to do so. Time is of the essence since we are hearing news that Republican Congressman Lamar Smith of Texas thinks President Obama is not deporting enough of my people, and we know Smith is not speaking the truth. We see the two forces at play hurting, yet helping the anti-immigrant agenda, and we will continue to do what we can with fervor to help those who are weak, defenseless and scared.

Regards,

The National Tequila Party Movement

(AP) ? Aaron Rodgers missed a few more throws than he usually does, and even threw an interception with the game still in doubt.

He just wasn't at his best against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday ? until he absolutely had to be.

With the Packers clinging to a two-point lead and trying to fend off a late rally, Rodgers threw a 40-yard touchdown to Jordy Nelson with 2:55 left and the Packers survived a scare from the Buccaneers for a 35-26 victory.

With a 10-0 record going into a Thanksgiving Day game at Detroit, the Packers remain perfect, even if their quarterback walked away expecting much more from himself. Rodgers threw for 299 yards with three touchdowns, including a pair to Nelson, but wasn't happy with the way he played.

"I'm just frustrated," Rodgers said. "I didn't throw the ball very well. I'm not trying to be ridiculously humble right now, I'm just frustrated. The ball wasn't coming out the way I wanted it to today."

The Packers' defense also had trouble stopping quarterback Josh Freeman and tackling running back LeGarrette Blount, giving Packers coach Mike McCarthy plenty of mistakes to point out going into what will be a much-hyped matchup with the Lions.

"I think it was great for us," McCarthy said. "Adversity is awesome. We're getting ready to play a big game on national TV on Thanksgiving, and adversity (offers) healthy situations to learn from. Especially when you overcome it."

Freeman threw for 342 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Buccaneers (4-6), who have lost four straight but didn't back down against the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Blount had 107 yards rushing for Tampa Bay, including a rambling 54-yard touchdown run in the second quarter where he broke at least six tackles.

Tampa Bay was penalized nine times for 55 yards, but Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris wasn't using it as an excuse.

"Penalties are what they are, they are judgment calls and the judgment went against us a lot of times," Morris said. "It is what it is"

Tight end Tom Crabtree caught a touchdown from Rodgers and John Kuhn added a touchdown rushing from Green Bay. The Packers got their first score of the afternoon on a run by 337-pound defensive lineman B.J. Raji.

"He's low to the ground," McCarthy said. "I wouldn't want to tackle him."

The Buccaneers trailed by only four points and seemed to have some momentum when they tried a surprise onside kick before halftime. After a replay review gave the ball to Green Bay at the Tampa Bay 38-yard line, Rodgers drove for a 5-yard touchdown to Nelson that gave the Packers a 21-10 lead.

Tampa Bay then had a touchdown taken off the board in the third quarter when Kellen Winslow was called for offensive pass interference. The Buccaneers settled for a 32-yard field goal by Connor Barth.

"I really felt we made enough to plays to beat those guys," Winslow said. "It is hard to win when you put the game in the refs' hands."

The Buccaneers' defense got a stop, and Freeman directed an eight-play, 91-yard scoring drive that ended with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Mike Williams.

Tampa Bay tried to tie it with a 2-point conversion, but Winslow ? who had a pair of big gains on the drive ? dropped a catchable ball in the end zone.

Packers running back James Starks did the majority of the work in an eight-play, 85-yard scoring drive that ended with a 2-yard touchdown run by Kuhn.

But the Buccaneers got another chance when Rodgers threw an interception to Elbert Mack ? only Rodgers' fourth pick this season ? and Freeman threw a 37-yard pass to Arrelious Benn to set up first-and-goal at the 2.

Freeman then threw a touchdown to Dezmon Briscoe and the Buccaneers kicked the extra point to cut the Packers' lead to 28-26 with 4:25 left.

Tampa Bay tried another onside kick, but the Packers recovered and Rodgers found Nelson to put the game away.

Morris knew he might get second-guessed for the onside kicks but wasn't apologizing.

"We wanted to get the ball and win," Morris said. "We are not going to apologize for being aggressive. When you play the Green Bay Packers, you got to play aggressive, you got to go out and make plays. (You've) got to steal possessions."

Notes: McCarthy said Starks sprained his knee during Sunday's game, and his availability this week is unclear. ... A late interception gave the Packers' Mason Crosby a shot at a 29-yard field goal, but Crosby hit the right upright, his first miss of the season. ... Packers punter Tim Masthay turned a broken play into a first down in the first quarter, despite fumbling twice on the play. "Tim's got to hold onto that football," Rodgers said, smiling. "That was pretty funny."

The Woz gets his Galaxy Nexus (and a t-shirt) a bit early from Google

Teh Woz

Steve Wozniak, considered by many to be the real brains behind Apple's early success in the desktop computer business and an all-around cool fellow, is seen leaving some mysterious Google campus building today.  Word is he received a Galaxy Nexus and an Ice Cream Sandwich T-shirt from the boys and girls in Mountain View, and it looks like he's ready to defend them from fans and press with a short right hook to the chin if need be.   Woz is Woz, so we'll know soon how much he likes his new toy.  I'm betting he gives it a big nerdly thumbs-up.

Cubs hire Sveum as new manager

The Chicago Cubs have hired Dale Sveum as their new manager, hoping the Milwaukee Brewers hitting coach can help turn around the long-suffering franchise.

The Cubs said Sveum would be introduced at a news conference Friday at Wrigley Field.

Sveum replaces Mike Quade, who was fired by Theo Epstein, the team's new president of baseball operations. The Cubs finished 71-91 after a disappointing season that extended their infamous championship drought to 103 seasons.

Sveum, who turns 48 next Wednesday, has little experience as a manager, other than an interim stint for the Brewers late in 2008 after Ned Yost was fired.

Sveum had competition for the Cubs job. Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux, Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin and Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. all interviewed face-to-face for the spot. Red Sox bench coach DeMarlo Hale was interviewed over the phone and former Boston manager Terry Francona pulled himself out of contention.

Sveum also interviewed for the Red Sox manager's vacancy and met a second time this week with officials from both the Cubs and Boston.

Sveum -- the name is pronounced swaym -- will take over a team that finished fifth in the NL Central and is saddled with big contracts belonging to Carlos Zambrano and Alfonso Soriano. The Cubs also boast a talented young player in All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro, but have a host of personnel questions to sort through.

The Cubs' new management team comes with a championship pedigree that the new manager knows well: Sveum served as Boston's third base coach in 2004-05, when Epstein was the general manager.

At the time, Sveum was often criticized for an aggressive approach that led to runners being thrown out at the plate. But the coach with the nickname of "Nuts" was part of a championship team and is a believer in the advanced statistical analysis that Chicago's new leadership loves and is counting on to build up the farm system.

"I do my due diligence and video work and prepare as much as anybody," Sveum said before he was hired. "As far as the stats, those are what they are, and we can use them to our advantage. It's a big part of the game now. It's helping us win a lot of ballgames, the stats and the matchups. That's just part of the game now, and you use what you can."

Sveum was a switch-hitting shortstop for the Brewers and had a 25-homer season before his career was slowed after an outfield collision. In 12 seasons with Milwaukee and six other teams, he batted .236 with 69 home runs and 340 RBIs in 862 games. He was drafted by Milwaukee in the first round (25th overall) in 1982.

Sveum did well in his limited run as Milwaukee's manager. After Yost was fired following a 3-11 slide in September, Sveum led the Brewers to their first playoff appearance in 26 years, winning six of seven down the stretch and capturing the wild card on the final day of the regular season.

Milwaukee then decided to hire a more experienced manager in the offseason and went with Ken Macha, who lasted two seasons. Sveum stayed on as the hitting coach and oversaw one of the best offenses in the National League last season. With Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder leading the way, the Brewers hit an NL-high 185 homers and were third with a .261 batting average on their way to the NL Central title -- well ahead of the Cubs.

The past two seasons have bottomed out for Chicago.Lou Piniella abruptly retired in August 2010 and while Quade stepped in and did well, the Cubs didn't respond as well this season.

Zambrano was suspended late in the season after another outburst and is likely gone, even with a year left on his five-year, $91.5 million contract. There is a potential ace in Matt Garza and a promising young arm in Andrew Cashner.

First baseman Carlos Pena, a free agent who hit 28 homers with 80 RBIs and a .225 average, would like to come back. Aramis Ramirez, who hit .306 with 26 homers and 93 RBIs, said he plans to explore the free agent market, though there is a mutual $16 million option on the table. Soriano, who has three years remaining on his deal, batted .244 but did hit 26 homers with 88 RBIs.

Patriots relying on newcomers in secondary (AP)

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ? New England's defensive backs are trying to prepare for a quarterback they've hardly seen.

The same can be said of Kansas City's Tyler Palko getting ready for the Patriots' secondary, which has been spread thin by recent injuries.

"Whenever you're number is called, you just have to adapt. See your role and just be ready," said cornerback Kyle Arrington, one of New England's few defensive backs who hasn't been knocked out of the lineup this season. "You always have to prepare like you're going to be out there."

Sterling Moore is coming off his first career start and preparing for may be his second in a row. A cornerback the Patriots picked up after he was released by Oakland, stepped in at safety as Patrick Chung was out with a foot injury.

Antwaun Molden, who was claimed off waivers in September, had to take over at corner when starter Devin McCourty injured his right his shoulder during the first half of a win over the Jets.

If Chung and McCourty are still out Monday, the Patriots will have to rely once again on some of their newest players when they host the Chiefs on Monday night.

"It's a great opportunity for us to continue the success that we had in the secondary last week," Moore said before practice Thursday.

The Patriots will be going up against Palko, who is making his first career start and has played in only two games this season. There isn't a lot of video to review on Palko, who replaced former Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel.

The patched-up secondary helped keep New York's Mark Sanchez in check as the Patriots won 37-16. Sanchez passed for 306 yards, but completed only 20 of 39 passes and was intercepted twice by linebacker Rob Ninkovich.

Backup safety Josh Barrett was placed on injured reserve last week, opening a spot on the active roster for Moore, an undrafted free agent who went through training camp with the Raiders but was a late cut.

"It was kind of hectic last week, especially earlier in the week knowing that I might have a chance to get out there. A lot more playbook study and a lot more film watching. It's nothing that I'm not too used to," Moore said. "I'm definitely getting a lot more comfortable with the guys that I'm back there with. I know we've got a lot of interchanging parts but we're pretty comfortable with who we've got back there."

The Patriots have also been using cornerback Phillip Adams the last few weeks. He has been off and on the active roster since the Patriots picked him up in September after he was released by San Francisco.

New England started another undrafted rookie at linebacker last week when Jeff Tarpinian stepped in for Brandon Spikes. Tarpinian was actually more experienced than some of his newer teammates, subbing in six games before getting the start.

Even with all the new faces, the New England defense had one of its best games of the season. It wasn't enough to bump the Patriots from last place on the NFL total defense standings, but the Patriots played well enough to win and take control of the AFC East.

Andre Carter, another newcomer to New England, set a franchise record with 4 1-2 sacks and was named AFC defensive player of the week. The Patriots picked up the veteran as a free agent in August.

"All these guys, I'm talking offense, defense, special teams ? this team ? works very, very hard. When you have a guy go out and put up a performance like Andre did, you can't be nothing but happy for him," nose tackle Vince Wilfork said. "To be good you have to be able to make adjustments at times. We've handled it well so far and hopefully we can continue to get better."

Diddy: Cheating on Cassie With Cameron Diaz?

File this under stories you didn't see coming: Diddy is supposedly dating Cassie ... and hooking up with Cameron Diaz when she booty calls him, Us claims.

The magazine claims Diaz has recently been getting it on with Sean "Diddy" Combs, with whom she's had an on/off relationship since he wooed her in 2008.

Diddy, meanwhile, has been dating model Cassie for the past three years.

Cameron Diaz SmilesSean Combs PicCassie Image

"Since then, when she's single, she'll booty call him," adds an Us insider.

The only hangup? Diddy is still dating his model girlfriend of three years, Cassie. Says a friend, "Diddy's single whenever there's a better offer on the table!"'

Nice. Apparently at NYC's Catch on October 24, the two were "inseparable" and "they had their hands all over each other," according to an eyewitness report.

Then, at last week's launch of Scarpetta in Beverly Hills, they were "making out, acting romantic," says a source. Reps for both stars they are "just friends."

We'd hope so for Cassie's sake ... and Diddy's. She might injure him.

(AP) ? Prime Minister-designate Mario Monti of Italy said Tuesday he is ready to present his new government to the president after winning wide backing ? and important pledges of sacrifices ? from political, business and union leaders during two days of intense consultations.

Monti said he still has to put the final touches on his Cabinet and economic program, which he will outline to President Giorgio Napolitano on Wednesday. His government must receive votes of confidence in both houses of Parliament, expected this week, to take office and begin the task of steering the eurozone's third-largest economy through its debt crisis.

Monti expressed his "serenity" and "conviction" in Italy's ability to overcome the difficult phase in its history.

"I was impressed by the sense of responsibility and willingness to back social growth," Monti said. "Everyone offered concrete contributions of possible partial sacrifices in exchange for a more general positive outcome."

Monti, a respected economist and former European commissioner, is under pressure to quickly reassure financial markets that Italy will avoid a default that could tear apart the 17 countries that use the euro currency and push the global economy back into recession. The European Union and the European Central Bank have outlined measures Italy must take ? many of them reforms blocked in the past by special interests.

Monti, 68, has already shown his determination to press through deep reforms by making it clear he intends to serve until regularly scheduled elections in 2013, rejecting calls for an early vote.

On Tuesday, after rounds of meetings, Monti garnered support from the center-left Democratic Party, former premier Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom party and the Confindustria, a powerful business lobby.

"We strongly support the birth of this government because for us it is the last chance to regain credibility," Confindustria leader Emma Marcegaglia said.

Union leader Raffaele Bonanni said Monti was close to completing his Cabinet at the time of their meeting Tuesday afternoon.

"Monti told us that he has reached an agreement with the main political forces that will give him a consistent parliamentary majority that will support him and he will very quickly be in a position to present the list of ministers," said Bonanni, leader of the powerful CISL union.

Despite reports of progress, European markets closed lower Tuesday as investors worried that politicians might pull their support in the future if austerity measures proved unpalatable.

On Wall Street, stock indexes wavered between small gains and losses as investors considered another spike in Italy's main borrowing rate against an increase in U.S. retail spending.

The yield on Italy's 10-year bonds jumped again to 6.94 percent. Last week's spike above 7 percent ? a level considered unsustainable in the long term ? raised fears Italy would eventually need a bailout like Greece, Ireland and Portugal.

But a financial debacle in Italy raises a whole new set of problems because the country is considered too big for Europe to bail out.

Monti was asked to form a government Sunday after Berlusconi resigned amid weeks of market turmoil over Italy's stagnant growth and high public debt, which at ?1.9 trillion ($2.6 trillion) is nearly 120 percent of GDP.

Many of those debts are coming due soon, with Italy having to roll over more than ?300 billion ($410 billion) of its debts next year alone.

Monti met Tuesday with the head of the Democratic Party and Angelino Alfano, leader of the Peoples of Freedom party.

"We think, in light of the facts and after this latest conversation, that Professor Monti's attempts are destined to turn out well," Alfano told reporters afterward.

Previously, his party had conditioned its support on the shape of Monti's Cabinet, his government agenda and the duration of his term.

Pierluigi Bersani, head of the Democratic Party, pledged support and placed no timeframe on Monti's tenure.

Only the Northern League, Berlusconi's allies, have refused to support his government. They want early elections this spring, something Monti has rejected.

The EU, meanwhile, says said new measures will be necessary for Italy to balance its budget as promised by 2013. The eurozone avoided contracting in the third quarter, thanks mainly to Germany and France, but is widely expected to fall into recession imminently as a result of its raging debt crisis.

Monti says Italians will have to make some sacrifices to get through the crisis but "not tears and blood."
